Andrew
Musgrave was born in Zimbabwe, in 1974.
Andrew came to England as a young child and moved to the Ribble Valley at
the age of four; his joy, as a boy, was the garden and woodlands
surrounding his home.
By the age of 14 Andrew had made himself a woodturning lathe and had
started to produce simple turned articles.
As Andrew’s skills developed it became obvious that a better lathe was
needed so that he could satisfactorily create the things he felt moved to
make.
These one-off items of turned art use the natural edges and
characteristics of the wood to enhance the individual pieces.
Much of the work Andrew does is with burr and watermarked baulks of
timber, the striking complexity of the entangled features can only be seen
once made visible by the artist.
Many hours have been spent scouring the woodland of the
Ribble Valley searching for the raw materials from which most of these
rare and unique creations are made. |
